THE FRACAS AT THE WEIGH-IN by Jody Heaps

LAS VEGAS. Saturday - The fiercest fight of this weekend may have happened yesterday at the weigh-in for the WBA title bout between Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield.

There, Teddy Atlas, the trainer for Michael Moorer who will be defending his IBF title today, attacked Richie Salazar, a former fighter and now a writer for a small amateurish paper out of New Jersey entitled One More Round.

Witnesses say that Atlas attacked Salazar from the back, knocking him to the ground. There, the fight lasted at least five minutes before security could separate the two combatants. Members of Moorer's camp seemed to be joining in although some are claiming they were trying to break it up.

There has been bad blood between the two men and many in the press room say this is not their first physical altercation. But the cause of this fight appears to be an article that Salazar wrote in his paper entitled The Indictment of Teddy Atlas. In this piece, he lists a series of fights that Atlas has allegedly started.

Atlas has always enjoyed a good reputation amongst the press corps for his integrity and dedication, but has also been known to have a quick temper.

Today, 24 hours later, rumors continue to spread about the fight. Some are saying Atlas bit Salazar during their fracas. Others are contending that Salazar, a younger man, got the best of the fight. And many are saying that Atlas will be arrested on assault charges.

But the chances are tonight Atlas will be in Moorer's corner and Salazar will be in press row.

And the fights will happen where they should: inside the ring.
