Holyfield vs. Tyson: The Rematch
|Recap Tyson vs Holyfield Nov 9th Fight|
|Press Conference February 3rd|

New York, NY January 20, 1997 - World Boxing Association (WBA) Heavyweight Champion Evander Holyfield and former champion Mike Tyson will meet again in the ring May 3, live on pay per view from the MGM Grand Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas, it was announced today by Don King Productions, Inc., SET (Showtime Event Television) Pay Per View and the MGM Grand Hotel/Casino.

Holyfield, from Atlanta, GA, revitalized boxing by capturing the title with an 11th round TKO of Tyson on Nov. 9, 1996. In one of the biggest upsets in boxing history, Holyfield (33-3, 24 KOs) became the second man, along with Muhammad Ali, to capture the heavyweight title three times. Dictating the action from round one, Holyfield did not allow the normally invincible Tyson to intimidate him in any way. He became only the second man to ever knock Tyson down when he delivered a left hook that sent Tyson crashing to the canvas in the sixth round. After Tyson survived a flurry that could have ended the bout in the 10th, 11 unanswered punches by Holyfield to begin the 11th round prompted referee Mitch Halpern to call a halt to the bout 37 seconds into the round.

Tyson (45-2, 39 KOs) has rebounded from adversity before, and intends to prove that Nov. 9 was an aberration. The former undisputed champion, who captured two portions of the heavyweight championship in his comeback, still possesses unmatched speed and power in both hands, and a strong sense of ring history that is unparalled among today's fighters. Fighting out of Catskill, New York, Tyson is seeking to become the third man to capture the heavyweight title three times.

Ticket prices and an on-sale date for tickets to the live event at the MGM Grand Garden will be announced shortly.

SET (Showtime Event Television) Pay Per View and KingVision Pay Per View will distribute the card and anticipate it will be available in 25 million pay per view cable-television homes in addition to closed circuit locations and select satellite delivered homes. The telecast will be blacked out in Las Vegas.

Holyfield vs. Tyson is promoted by Don King Productions in association with the MGM Grand Hotel/Casino -- The City of Entertainment.

Holyfield vs. Tyson will be the 19th telecast from SET Pay Per View and KingVision Pay Per View, who on Nov. 9, 1996, presented Tyson vs. Holyfield: Finally, the most watched pay per view event ever, SET/KingVision first teamed up to telecast Tyson-Ruddock I on March 18, 1991.
